I am a student who is trying to make a simple yet efficient solar oven, i got the absorption down but can i use aluminum tinfoil for concentration?
Thank you for your inquiry Nicholas,
Yes, aluminum foil will work well for reflecting the suns rays to a more concentrated area.
Lots of people use aluminum foil for this as well as silver reflective tape (Home Depot, Lowes) and also the silver reflective bubble wrap insulation which are also available at your home improvement stores, and mylar etc.
The one main drawback to aluminum foil is that it will fade after a few days of continual exposure to the sun. It becomes opaque and is not as reflective then.
There are many who come to this website who have made their own homemade solar cookers using aluminum foil in their designs.
We would love to see the solar cooker design you chose to construct and to hear how well it works out for you.
