Cost of materials

by Sami Stillwell
(Chicago, IL)

Hi
I'm doing a project for environmental science and I was wondering how much materials would cost for solar cookers to send to under developed countries.
How much would it cost to make one?

Greetings Sami,

Great Question as well as a great project.

The cost for materials for a homemade solar cooker are not that much, it is usually the shipping costs to get them there that can be quite costly depending on what you send and how you send it.

There are a number of simple solar cookers that are easy to make, easy to store and are portable while at the same time very effective solar cookers.

One very easy design to follow would be that which is similar to the well known cookit found on this page, along with several other easy to make designs.

On our site we have a simple panel cooker that can be made for about $5.00 and is quite effective for small amounts of solar food cooking.

I hope this information is helpful, and if there are any other solar cooks out there that might want to give some suggestions, we invite you to do so.
