Haiti Again! Solar Cooking Success!

by Joan Conover
(Smithfield, VA)

This was a tremendously successful voyage to Haiti.
Not only to install green energy (30 ! Thirty) solar array panels, inverters, batteries which were donated, but also introducing for the first time the concept of solar cooking. Six solar cooker kits designed from information on your site were sent.

The photos show the results.

The next step, have just received the plans from Ravindra Pardeshi, for the Parvati Cooker at
http://www.angelfire.com/80s/shobhapardeshi/ParvatiCooker.html

They sent FULL sized plans for the Parvati Cooker, which we hope to try next fall with the next boats traveling to the island of Haiti, some to La Gonave and others to Isla Veche.

Its a major step forward for these wonderful people, and your efforts on Solar Cooker at Cantinawest have made a real difference. See the previous post on Haiti Assistance for more of the story of the Sailors Without Borders. We can carry critical items to out of way locations.

Haiti, One more Step to Success
by: Joan

Just an update to the Haiti efforts, OceansWatches, Donna Lange, is taking the plans for the Parvati Solar Cooker, making a test cooker of cardboard and foil, then transporting the kit to Haiti, La Gonave--THIS MONTH. She will sail her boat which completed a solo circumnavigation to Haiti from Miami, leaving in a week. We hope to have more information and photos from her efforts. One thing of great interest to Oceanswatch, is a flat kit form, which could be produced in India under the guidance of Parvati. Its a win win for both organizations if it happens--and OceanWatch sends boat worldwide as well. AAEHaiti (www.aaehaiti.org) will also use the prototype and kits--to go with their new internet cafe business, and schools. "A voyage starts with one step"---Sailors Without Borders, Joan
