Pizza box cooker for solar nut roaster

by N K Srinivasan
(Bangalore, India)

I have tried earlier a simple solar nut roaster using a regular box cooker design, as given in a previous article.(solar nut roaster)
What could be simpler than a Pizza box cooker design, used by many students in their school projects?
I made a pizza box cooker using a flat box available locally in Bangalore, India. I used a rigid acrylic sheet for glazing and kept it on the window opening of the box lid. A blackened aluminum tray was kept inside the box. I used small stainless steel trays to hold about 200 grams of peanuts.

The temperature was measured with "Gook Cook" oven thermometer.
In this month of December with rather cold winds and intermittent cloud cover, I could record 110 deg C about 215 F in about an hour. The peanuts were roasted to brown color with delicate flavor and delicious taste.
Many school students with pizza box cookers can try to roast various kinds of nuts to add to their snacks.
