Building a Solar Oven

by Bobby Black
(Texas, U.S.A.)

I am building a solar oven for a science class. The materials we are provided are as follows: Tin foil, cardboard, tinfoil tray, aluminum foil, saran wrap, knife, duct tape, and masking tape. Please give me a blueprint for building a solar oven with only these materials.

Plans for Solar Cookers
by: Light Dancing

An important part of DOING any science project is actually doing some RESEARCH of your own. How fortunate we are to have the internet to bring that research to our fingertips. When I was young we had to actually visit the nearest library, and search through endless books. Now days we can simply "google" and typed in "PLANS FOR SOLAR COOKERS"to access the following web link (third one down) which gives you to an extensive list of different kinds of homemade solar cookers. But since I have took 5 minutes find it for you, You may as well get the info from me. Good luck in deciding which one fits your materials and your motivation best. Go to:

Answer to Your Question
by: Brad

I'd stay away from Saran Wrap (polyethylene), although people do use it up to 375F from what I've read. Personally, I use an oven cooking bag instead, and you'll see how at these two links.

These are the instructions for a solar panel cooker I built and you can expect some solid temperatures in your cooking vessel.

Good luck.
