SURYAKUMBH-THE WORLD'S LARGEST SOLAR COOKING FESTIVAL
Energy is perhaps the most vital currency of the 21st Century. Our entire idea of growth, prosperity and a fulfilled life is based on the assumption that this source of Energy is infinitely available & harmless. But, as many climatic catastrophes and scientists have proved, we have now reached a stage where unless we find radical solutions to the way we use and harness energy, or we’ll be extinct very soon.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), every year, 4.5 million people die from the indoor cooking smoke generated from burning wood and dung cakes. The WHO also revealed in one of its reports that 70 percent of energy expenditure in rural areas is spent on cooking, and that women spend most of their time in collecting wood and cooking food.
As a solution to this problems
'Simplified Technologies for Life (STFL)', Jalna (Maharashtra,India) based startup organizes SuryaKumbh- World’s largest Solar Cooking Festival.
SuryaKumbh is a unique Solar festival wherein every participant builds their own solar cooker in few minutes, use it to independently cook delicious food without Fuel, Fire or Wire and then take it back home to share the joy of solar cooking with family, friends and neighbors.
Till date SuryaKumbh has empowered over 119,500 children globally from a small tribal village of Jawahar to the ultra modern city of Dubai.
SuryaKumbh holds Guinness World Record for ‘Largest Solar Oven Cooking Class’.
Till date there have been four world record attempts
2250 participants at JES College, Jalna in 2013
3639 participants at Keshav Srushti, Thane in 2014
6021 participants at MIT College, Aurangabad in 2016
7438 participants at Subhash Ground, Bhayander in 2017
Imagine the day when every child is empowered with the confidence of harnessing the solar energy on his own, irrespective of age, gender, income or geography. Wouldn’t that be a strong foundation for a healthier, happier and a greener future for all of us.
Let us contribute in taking such festivals to everyone we know.
