Take Me out to the Sunny Ball game to Solar cook Dinner!
by Joyce Lee
I love to share how easy and fun and free solar cooking is with everyone so I carry my cookers with me in the back of my little Ford Ranger truck wherever I go and cook whenever I can.
Just yesterday late afternoon, I was at my 9 year old granddaughters softball game. I went a little early to find the perfect spot for my GSO and my Hot Pot. The perfect spot happened to be behind the fence that was behind my granddaughter's dugout (Go Bee's)and next to one of the main roads in town.
I was able to sit in my truck in the shade and yell encouragement to the team while my dinner cooked in a sunny spot in front of the truck by the road.
I had several people including a few children walk by and ask what I was doing. A couple of curious dogs sniffed around to find the source of the yummy Chicken smells wafting through the air. A policeman drove by and slowed way down when he spotted my cookers, no doubt wondering what on earth those things were. A man on a 4 wheeler drove slowly by and waved (yep this is a small town)!
About 15 minutes later the man with the 4 wheeler came back and this time his wife was sitting behind him. He'd gone to get her because he recognized me and had heard that I solar cook and he wanted her to see how it works.
I missed the entire last 2 innings of the ball game explaining how the different solar cookers work and letting them sample the bread I had baked earlier in the day while I was at my work.
They decided to talk to some of their married children and extended families to see if they would come to a solar picnic in the near future and see how great these work! They would like their families to have cookers like these for camping and emergencies. I hope they want to use them like I do for convenience and fun also!
I still don't know who won the ballgame!!! Must not have been the Bee's!
Thank you Joyce...a great narrative and a great example on how to spread the solar cooking word...by example of course.
