How does solar energy affect cooking?

by Natalia
(North Carolina )

My daughter has a project and she has to do a pizza box solar oven. My question is how does solar energy affect cooking? Thank u in advanced

Thank you for visiting our website and for your inquiry about solar cooking.

We get lots of the same questions from students all over the place who are also making solar cookers for their science project, it's a popular project.

You may ask the same question a little differently, by asking how does solar energy "effect", or cause, cooking.
In the case of solar energy for cooking this is a good example of passive solar energy at work. The UV rays are converted to infrared rays and they cause the food to cook.
Here on this page you can find the "how" explained in a little more depth and detail.
How Solar Cooking Works

And, one more suggestion, After you build your pizza box solar cooker I would suggest also trying this simple $5.00 Solar Panel Cooker as well, since it will probably cook much more effectively than the pizza box style solar cookers that are built by so many students, but tend to not have the ability to cook very well due to many factors.

I hope this information and these pages help.
