Nathan-
My dad recently bought a Global Sun Oven for me and I have used it about six or seven times. I did the vinegar wash after I first got it as the instruction manual said to do, but there still seems to be a strong plastic(?)or insulation(?) odor that comes from it, kind of like fumes. The odor also tends to seep into the food I cook and it makes everything taste like the solar oven. It's awful! I have had a bowl of baking soda sitting in it for a couple weeks hoping that would help eliminate the fumes, but I just cooked lunch with it and they are as strong as ever. Is there something else I can do to get rid of the fumes?
Thanks,
Jayme Mendenhall

Yes, some solar cookers, even the Global Sun Oven, can have an initial "new manufacture" smell to them.
This can be remedied with a number of solutions, but I have found the best way is to continually cook in the oven (food inside of covered cookware)and frequent washing/cleaning of the interior, and soon you will have no problem.
You, can read more about this issue and suggested remedies here on this page: Solar Oven Odors?
